Raajje is an independent creative project exploring the connections inside ordinary lives: the things people make, the places they leave, the ways they look after each other.
We’re beginning with one original story. The ambition is an atlas with room for different islands, generations, experiences, and voices. A place for recognition, discovery, and the occasional unexpected laugh.
Behind the first chapter
The mat
This is original fiction. It is not the testimony of an actual mother or daughter, and carrying a mat when moving is an invented choice in this story, not a claim about a Maldivian custom.
The material context draws on publicly available documentation by the Maldives Authentic Crafts Cooperative Society (MACCS), including its work with hau growers and mat makers and accounts of reed preparation and weaving.
Those sources inform the setting; their words, photographs, individual stories and documented patterns have not been reproduced here. Publicly available material is not automatically public domain.

Words, images & movement
The story and illustrations were created for Raajje with AI assistance. The four images depict invented scenes. No person pictured is presented as a real contributor. The repeating reed mat is an illustrative motif, not a reproduction of an identified artisan’s design.
The ocean’s subtle movement is rendered with Three.js. Typography uses Cormorant Garamond and Manrope, distributed under the SIL Open Font License. The experience works without sound; no film music or recordings have been borrowed.
